The Parents' Forum at John Mason is the main two-way communication between Parents and the School on key issues for all students; issues such as: new initiatives that may affect our students learning, new technologies and overall student attainment. We have held sessions on teaching and learning best practice, student behaviour policies and ethos as well as vision and values consultation. Each session is attended by the senior leadership team and parent governors. The majority of parents at our events over the last 3 years have rated the sessions as 'good' or 'excellent'. We aim to hold between 4 and 6 evenings each academic year.
We welcome all parents and carers to take part in the forum, if you wish to join all or some of the meetings. We will keep you posted on topics for discussion. Please check the website for regular updates, where we will post future meeting dates and any presentation papers that might be of interest to those parents who cannot attend particular meetings.
'I am grateful for all of these parent forums as it helps me to find out more about what goes on at John Mason and what I can do to help my son at home'.

July 2015: Information on National Curriculum and Assessment changes
May 2015: The forum's focus: Visions and Aspirations for John Mason School
January 2015: The forum's focus: The Curriculum at John Mason School. There was a short presentation about our current curriculum model, and then some discussion around the ideas we have for future developments and priorities.
November 2014: The forum's focus: Stretch and Challenge. Parents heard about our enrichment programme for the most able children at John Mason: Mr. Marshall is our newly appointed co-ordinator for ‘Able, Gifted and Talented’ students and will be shortly setting up a blog on our website to inform parents about what is happening at ‘Level-Up’, our after-school club for able and ‘gifted’ children.
The Parents Forum session, however, was centred around our day-to-day provision in the classroom for all children. Mr. Brinkley, Director of Learning and Teaching, gave an excellent presentation on the way we expect all schemes of learning to provide stretch and challenge in the classroom for all year groups and at all times. You can look at his presentation here.
Thank you to those parents who came along and presented questions: we continue to value Parents’ Forum as a way of hearing parents’ views and ideas about how we can make our school even more successful.
September 2014: The forum's focus: how we assess and track your child’s progress on a daily basis, and throughout the year.
An earlier forum: how can I keep my children safe on the Internet? This is still relevant so please follow this link to see the slides that formed the basis of the presentation
