Student Voice

John Mason’s Student Council are a group of enthusiastic and friendly students from Year 7 to Year 13.

We meet every Tuesday at 1.10pm to discuss issues that are important to the student body. Students lead on a number of different things, ranging from attending Governor meetings, organising assemblies and fundraising to help charities as well as the school.

Since September 2016, Student Council have raised over £1000 for charities such as Children in Need and Macmillan Cancer Care, by organising events like a coffee morning and a fayre. In Term 3, we will be fundraising for Just Like Us and the British Heart Foundation.

We’ve also made a difference to the student community: by holding a charity event in conjunction with the JMA, we have raised almost £900 for new seating for students to use at break times and lunchtimes. We have made differences to the canteen by asking for vegetarian and gluten free options, and we’ve also developed a student panel to deal with low level behaviours in conjunction with Student Heroes. We are hoping that during Term 4 and 5, we will be able to meet up with other student councils in the consortium. Our Year 11 students are also organising a well-being week for their peers, and have been influential in helping us design our tutor programme.

If you would like to join the Council, please speak to Mrs Fairgrieve. We are always looking for new members, especially from Year 8-10.
